(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Chicago man died over the holiday weekend in an ATV crash in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Michigan State Police said troopers responded to a 911 call made from a trail near Manistique, along the northern shore of Lake Michigan at about 8 p.m. Sunday.

The driver of the ATV, a 33-year-old Chicago man, had lost control. He and his passenger were ejected.

The ATV then rolled over the man, causing life-threatening injuries.   He has not been publicly identified.

His passenger, his 11-year-old niece, according to police, had minor injuries.
The driver was pronounced dead at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital. Police said neither was wearing a helmet.

They say the incident remains under investigation.
