Chicago Park District approves Lightfoot's pick for president
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The Chicago Park District board quickly approved Mayor Lori Lightfoot's choice to be its new head and she has her work cut out for her.
Parks Board president Myetie Hamilton replaces Avis LaVelle who resigned last November after Lightfoot was not happy about LaVelle's handling of a lifeguard sexual harassment scandal.
I believe this is a rare opportunity for us. It's an opportunity and a time of change and to forge a path forward in restoring trust and also advancing equity across our parks that will bring empowerment to our neighborhoods," said Hamilton, who is vice president and executive director of City Year Chicago.
Hamilton spent a number of years at the Chicago Public School system including being a top aide to now-convicted former Schools CEO Barbara Byrd Bennett.
