On this 24th anniversary of the attacks on September 11th, hundreds of volunteers packed Union Station to help those in need.
“It feels really meaningful and really purposeful.”
Here inside Union Station, it sounds a bit like a nightclub, as a DJ provides the soundtrack, and encouragement, for volunteers packing half a million meals for the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
“Today is an amazing display of people coming together to help neighbors in need. This goes a long way to helping our neighbors who are wrestling with food insecurity.”
Communications Manager Camerin Mattson says like many of us, she remembers exactly where she was when she learned about the deadly attacks on 9/11.
“If I could’ve known then that I’d be standing in a hall full of all of these volunteers doing something positive and redeeming this day, I think it would’ve gone a long way to providing hope.”
Sarah Stevens was among those volunteers.
“It really feels like we’re bringing our purpose to life today.”
Sept. 11 has become the largest day of service in the nation.
