(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago City Treasurer Melissa Conyers-Ervin is launching an exploratory committee to run for Congress in the 7th District now held by longtime incumbent Danny Davis.

Conyers-Ervin said she won’t challenge Davis while he is in office but wants to look ahead to a potential next phase of her political career. She is a former state lawmaker.

Davis has been in office for 26 years and has already filed paperwork to run next year.
