GRAYSLAKE, Ill. (WBBM Newsradio) – The College of Lake County has received the largest donation in its history – a more than $6 million gift aimed at helping students complete their degrees with fewer financial barriers.

The $6.065 million gift from Schreiber Philanthropy will fund scholarships, emergency financial assistance and expanded student support services across the college’s campuses in Lake County.

College officials said the investment will help students stay enrolled and complete their education, particularly those facing unexpected financial challenges such as housing instability, food insecurity or childcare costs.

“This historic gift strengthens our ability to support student access and success,” CLC President Dr. Lori Suddick said in a statement. “Its impact will be felt across generations of learners in Lake County.”

The largest portion of the donation establishes a scholarship endowment designed to help students with the greatest financial need earn debt-free associate degrees. Additional funding will be available immediately while the endowment matures.

The gift also boosts the college’s Lancer Emergency Assistance Fund, which helps students cover urgent expenses like groceries, utility bills and transportation, and expands services intended to improve the overall student experience, including childcare support.

College leaders estimate the funding could help about 60 students earn debt-free degrees each year, though nearly 400 additional students still face unmet financial need. Officials said additional donations will be needed to reach more students.
