(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced $15 million in new funding intended to help more people become apprentices in the construction industry, which is currently facing a labor shortage.
The Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program, officials said, also looks to help increase diversity in the building trades by providing more training opportunities.
In addition to the $15 million, the state has already distributed $10 million to 22 organizations since the program was launched last year.
Officials said the construction apprenticeship program has provided opportunities to 1,000 participants across the state.
