
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A shooting involving police took place in the West Ridge neighborhood, on Chicago’s Far North Side, Saturday morning.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the shooting that took place near Washtenaw and Farwell avenues.
Investigators say as officers were responding to an initial shooting of a 39-year-old man around 9:30 a.m. A possible suspect in that shooting exchanged gunfire with police at the scene.
In that shooting, a Chicago Fire Department ambulance was struck. Returning fire from officer struck the suspect.
The man wounded in the initial shooting was taken in serious condition to a hospital, while a fire department spokesperson says the man wounded by police was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
No officers were injured during the incident. Officers involved are being places on routine administrative duties for a minimum of 30 days.
