(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It’s an age-old question in central Illinois: Is it Champaign-Urbana? Or is it Urbana-Champaign?

Teri Reifsteck, with Visit Champaign County, told Channel 3 there have been strong emotions on both sides for decades.

“We still see some of that today, and so it’s kind of interesting to see this history that’s over 100 years old, and how it still kind of continues to play out in different conversations in the community,” she said.

To help settle the dispute, Visit Champaign County partnered with a local artist to create two identical T-shirts with one key difference.

One shirt reads “Champaign-Urbana,” while the other reads “Urbana-Champaign.”

The mayors of both cities will take part in a friendly competition for a trophy based on T-shirt sales throughout the end of the year.
