CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago Public Schools security guard at Farragut Career Academy was due in court Wednesday on sexual assault charges.
Chicago police accused 43-year-old Romel Campoverde, who worked security at the Little Village high school, of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old female student.
According to a police report, Campoverde gave the girl alcohol before the alleged incident.
CPS provided WBBM with a letter Farragut Principal Tonya Hammaker sent to parents. In the letter, Hammaker said Campoverde has been removed from the school and added that an investigation has been initiated by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG).
"Based on the information learned during the OIG's investigation, a final determination will be made regarding whether it is appropriate for this individual to return to Farragut," Hammaker wrote.
Campoverde is facing a criminal charge of sexual assault.
