(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A CTA bus supervisor was shot in the leg Tuesday afternoon in the Archer Heights neighborhood.
The supervisor's condition was stabilized at a hospital and he's expected to survive the incident, which occurred around 2 p.m. near 47th and Archer, officials said.
Chicago Police said the 55-year-old was outside when a passenger from an unknown vehicle began firing in his direction, striking the victim in the right thigh.
As the vehicle fled, a witness fired his weapon at it. The witness has a valid concealed carry license, police said.
The CTA tells WBBM Newsradio the incident happened following an earlier accident involving a CTA bus. A union representative said employees continually face danger as they try to do their jobs.
"All we're doing is trying to come to work and move this city and earn a living, and we're just constantly falling victim to violence, one way or the other," Amalgamated Transit Union 241 President Keith Hill said.
