(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With less than one week until Christmas, Christkindlmarket Chicago announced that it has sold out of its popular souvenir mugs at two of its three locations.
The 2023 mugs are no longer available at the market’s Daley Plaza or Aurora locations. Only the Wrigley Christkindlmarket has 2023 mugs, but officials expected those to sell out by Tuesday.
Instead, Christkindlmarket vendors will be selling the 2022 souvenir mug.
A spokesperson for Christkindlmarket Chicago said “significantly” increased attendance across the markets this year led to the mugs quickly selling out.
Individuals who already purchased a fast pass to the market — which included a 2023 mug — will still receive the 2023 version, Christkindlmarket officials said on social media.
Reactions to the announcement ran the gamut, with some criticizing organizers for what they interpreted as a failure to plan accordingly. Multiple people said the souvenir mugs were one of the reasons they look forward to the annual market.
The announcement was welcome news to others, though, who said they liked the 2022 mug better.
The Daley Plaza and Aurora Christkindlmarkets will remain open through Christmas Eve, and the Wrigleyville market will stay open through New Years’ Eve.
