CHICAGO, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A southwest suburban nurse has turned a Halloween family tradition into a book.

Megan Dagnino, who currently resides in Lemont, came up with "Witches Brew" when she was the room mom for her son's kindergarten class in Darien nine years ago.

It's a story that invites people to make a spooky concoction out of everyday candy items except raisins are called bat brains and m&m's are ghost eyes.

Dagnino said her son and friends got a kick out of the annual Halloween tradition and that's when she said she got the idea to turn it into a book so other families could have a Halloween tradition of their own.

"It certainly became a part of our family traditions, so I wanted to bring it to everyone else for their family traditions."

Dagnino said there's something about Halloween that appeals to the kid in everyone.

"I think it allows people, and especially children to be themselves or be whoever they imagine themselves to be."

The book and instructional video for "Witches Brew" can be found at witchsbrewbook.com. A portion of the proceeds from sales will go to charity.
