(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The cult film "Death Becomes Her" is coming to the stage as a musical in Chicago, and a Naperville native is talking about how he helped make it happen.

Christopher Herzberger has fond memories as a child at the Cadillac Palace Theatre. So much so that he spent his first day back where it all began in a seat in the balcony where he first sat as a 13-year-old boy.

"It's overwhelming to be able to so vividly see the 13-year-old version of yourself sitting in that same seat, wishing that someday you could work in this art form and in this community," Herberger said Tuesday. "To suddenly be there in that capacity is nearly too much to handle."

He said the effort to bring the 1992 Robert Zemeckis comedy to the stage has been 10 years in the making. The film about otherworldly efforts to stall the aging process starred Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis.

"Death Becomes Her" debuts in Chicago on April 30 and runs through June 2.
