CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - DePaul University has parted ways with men’s basketball Head Coach Tony Stubblefield.
DePaul Athletic Director DeWayne Peevy announced the move Monday afternoon.
“After evaluating the current state of our men’s basketball program, a decision was made to make a change in the head coaching position,” Peevy said. “We want to thank Coach Stubblefield for his hard work and determination over the last two-plus seasons to move our basketball program forward through a new ear for DePaul Athletics. Unfortunately, we did not meet our goals.”
Stubblefield, previously a longtime assistant at the University of Oregon, was in the midst of his third season with the Blue Demons. He compiled a record of 28-54.
DePaul has started the 2023-2024 season with a 3-15 record and 0-7 in Big East Conference play. Among those defeats was a 38-point loss to Providence last week.
The university has appointed Special Assistant to the Head Coach Matt Brady as interim head coach.
Peevy said DePaul will immediately begin a national search for a permanent head coach.
DePaul last qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2004.
