(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Debt and credit repair companies can be failures for consumers.

A recent Better Business Bureau study finds that some credit repair and debt relief companies make promises they don’t keep.

These companies claim to help consumers reduce or eliminate their debt or fix their credit score. However, in reality, they rarely might not deliver, leaving the consumers deeper in debt.

Individuals report to BBB that they have lost thousands of dollars and they are often worse off, because of mounting fees for debt relief programs and the lackluster results from the credit repair businesses.

If you are in debt, Contact your creditors yourself and attempt to negotiate lower debt payment.
