(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Illinois State Police say a Hoffman Estates man was arrested for driving under the influence after he crashed his car into a state trooper’s vehicle early Monday in the southwest suburbs.

State Police say besides the DUI charges, 28-year-old Yuri F. Ferreira Da Silva, the driver of a 2023 Land Rover, violated Scott’s Law. It requires drivers to slow down and move over when they approach an emergency vehicle with its lights on.

In this case, authorities say a trooper had stopped along southbound Interstate 55 near LaGrange Road to help a driver. That’s when Da Silva allegedly rear-ended the trooper’s squad car.

No injuries reported.

State police say it’s the 21st Scott’s Law-related crash involving state troopers so far this year.

There were 22 in all of last year.
