(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- DuPage County officials said the county missed out on as much as four million dollars in cannabis sales tax money and now there’s finger-pointing on who’s to blame.
DuPage County officials estimate the county lost between $2.5-$4 million, because the state didn’t start taking out cannabis sales tax money until being notified about the county’s sales tax more than a year and a half late.
DuPage County Board member Sam Tornatore said at the finance committee meeting said that County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek needs to have better ways of doing things.
"It’s most likely, I guess, that this was sent, but sent to the wrong place is even more of a reason why we should have had a copy or it should have been sent FedEx and not sent first class mail like you’re sending a Christmas card to Uncle Charlie."
County Board President Dan Cronin places the blame squarely on the county clerk, who insists the notification to the state was sent.
