ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After 90 migrants arrived in Elk Grove Village by bus Saturday morning, the Village scrambled to accommodate.

A bus carrying approximately 90 migrants who entered the United States at the Texas border arrived in Elk Grove Village and were dropped off at the local La Quinta Hotel.

Some will stay at the hotel while others may find shelter elsewhere, the Village said in a news release.

The Village was informed by the State of Illinois Friday afternoon that a migrant bus from Texas would coming to Elk Grove Village.

The village said it had not received prior notification from the state, county or City of Chicago about the situation and no direction from officials on how to handle it.

“While the Village is now well-informed about what is taking place, I cannot tell you how disappointing it is to see the haphazard way in which this has been handled by county, state, and City of Chicago officials," Mayor Craig Johnson said in a robocall to residents.

He also said that the Village did not receive any information about when the bus would arrive, where the migrants would stay or whose responsibility it is to provide food or medical care.

"Only after we began making phone calls and asking tough questions did we get the answers we were looking for.”
