(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- About 100 workers at the Museum of Contemporary Art have voted to join the growing ranks of unionized employees at Chicago cultural institutions.
The workers at the MCA will be represented by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Workers Council 31, AFSCME announced Wednesday.
Employees are seeking a voice on the job, better wages and conditions that will prevent job burnout, according to a news release.
"We urge management of the MCA to negotiate with us in good faith and in the spirit of cooperation," MCA artist Olive Stefanski told WBBM Newsradio.
Workers at several other Chicago cultural institutions, including the Art Institute of Chicago and The Field Museum, have also unionized in recent years.
