(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- You may have heard of Dry January, but what about Sober September?

A Manteno woman is spreading the word through a Facebook group for sober and sober-curious women.

Sarah Marion says the idea to start The AF Social – “AF” stands for alcohol-free -- began in 2022, when she decided to quit drinking.

"I finally hit a wall and I thought, I can't do this anymore. I'm not living in alignment with my values, I need to make a change,” she said.

She said when she had trouble finding a support group, she reached out to a friend who had also recently quit drinking, and proposed starting their own group for women.

"We started the group on Facebook and we started an event that was just a small dinner. And then every month, more and more women would join this private Facebook group. And we were able to connect with each other, and every month we'd have a unique event to just realize I can have fun without alcohol,” Marion said.

Now, the group has more than 300 members on Facebook.

"I think this is just the tip of the iceberg for getting awareness out there and just showing people you don't need a drink in your hand to be able to socialize and connect and have fun,” Marion said.
