CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The family of a 35-year-old woman found dead in August in an RV belonging to a Chicago police officer has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the now-retired officer and has issued subpoenas to the department.

Attorney Gergory Kulis, representing the family of Treasure Hendrix, stood with her mother, Cynthia Hendrix, outside CPD headquarters.

She cried as he discussed the lawsuit against the against former officer Charlie Bell. The 48-year-old former officer resigned seven days after he said he found Hendrix unresponsive in the RV he used sometimes when he was renting his home on AirBnb. The two had stayed in the RV together the night before.

"Her family has filed a lawsuit against Charlie Bell alleging her untimely death was caused by his negligence, his acts, and his omissions. Mrs. Hendrix has not received any communication from the Chicago Police Department," Kulis said.

"This is one week before Christmas, and the Hendrix Family are missing a very important part of their family. Cynthia Hendrix has always said to us, 'I want justice and I want some answers.'"

The Medical Examiner’s Office determined Treasure Hendrix died of a drug overdose, and found alcohol, cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and ecstasy in her system.

Her family insisted she didn’t use hard drugs.

The former officer reportedly told investigators he had had a relationship with Hendrix, that they would get together and drink sometimes, and sometimes he would give her money.

The case remains open and under investigation.
