(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Lollapalooza is underway, and fans lined up early today to see a certain performer.
Queer pop star Chappell Roan is among one of the most anticipated artists at Lollapalooza this year.
Some fans lined up as early as 8 a.m. to see her perform Thursday even though her set is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start time. Some said they traveled from places like Toronto, Seattle, and Indiana to see Chappell Roan, who they describe as a "gay icon."
Fans Isabella Abarca and Makayla Cooper talk about why it was so important for them to see Roan this weekend.
“And the fact that we have a queer artist who openly dresses as a drag queen and identifies with the LGBTQ community headlining at a festival like this is really fantastic and I think is making big waves.”
“Especially a proud lesbian artist who writes about lesbian experiences.”
If you don’t have tickets, or would rather watch the show from the comfort of your couch, Hulu will be streaming Lollapalooza.
The headliners Thursday are Hozier and Megan Thee Stallion.
