CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Cook County Public Guardian has filed a lawsuit accusing a financial advisor of "ripping off" a 76-year-old woman.
Priscilla Eddings started working with Citibank investment advisor Helen Caldwell in 2017, after retiring as a certified nursing assistant.
Eddings was eventually diagnosed with "dementia" -- and moved into an assisted living facility. That's when she started writing large checks for Caldwell's film production company. According to the public guardian's office, the checks totaled more than $400,000 dollars over a two year period.
“This is what happened to her after taking care of others during her working life and by someone she was entitled to think she could trust," the Public Guardian's office said in a statement.
The transactions were uncovered when Eddings' granddaughter sought legal guardianship over her--triggering a review of her finances.
So far there's been no response from Caldwell or Citibank. Caldwell is also accused of inducing at least 3 other Citibank investment clients to write checks to her company, Canal Productions
