BEDFORD PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A fire in a vacant building in Bedford Park early this morning is being investigated as suspicious.
The call came in to the fire department shortly after midnight. Bedford Park Chief Sean Maloy said the two- story commercial masonry building on Lavergne Avenue just south of Midway Airport was already filled with smoke by the time crews arrived.
"We believe there were three separate fires that were in the building," he said. "They extinguished one and there was an additional fire on the second floor that another company found and that was kind of a red flag."
Maloy said they upgraded the fire to a third alarm and about 20 agencies responded dealing with frozen streets and wires while fighting the fire and the cold. No one was injured, but the building is a total loss. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
