(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A former state employee from Melrose Park is heading to prison for groping women on the job and then lying about it.

Jose Guillen, 43, was an investigator for the Illinois Department of Agriculture. He had been accused of groping women who operated animal care facilities that he was inspecting.

When one of the women filed a civil lawsuit against Guillen, prosecutors say he repeatedly lied by claiming he touched a woman's backside by accident.

In a plea agreement with prosecutors, Guillen admitted to touching the women and then lying about it under oath in the deposition.

Guillen pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice last year.

This week, a federal judge sentenced him to a year and one day in federal prison.

“None of these women consented to the defendant’s lecherous advances,” assistant federal prosecutors argued in a sentencing memorandum.  “It was only when confronted by a series of accusers who were brave enough to step forward to put a stop to his misconduct that the defendant capitulated and accepted responsibility for his serial wrongdoing by pleading guilty.”
