CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — History and architecture buffs, get ready: The Chicago Architecture Center’s Open House Chicago returns Oct. 15 – 16.

As in years past, the free festival will offer tours of sites throughout Chicago that are historically, architecturally or culturally significant — including some new additions this year.

“We’ve added two neighborhoods that we’ve never done before: Hermosa, up on the Northwest Side, and then we added Chatham on the South Side,” said Sinhue Mendoza, with the Chicago Architecture Center Center.

This year's Open House Chicago will feature more than 20 communities and over 150 buildings, including the Chicago Board of Trade.

“The Chicago Board of trade building will open  — something people can’t usually go into,” Mendoza said. “You'll be able to walk in, tour the vault, which is very historic.”

Additionally, Mendoza said there will be about 20 self-guided tours available on their app for the entire month of October.
