CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Drivers need to brace for potentially icy conditions this evening.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all area counties- Kendall, Grundy, Will, McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage and Cook-. It takes effect at 6 p.m. and will not expire until 6 a.m. Thursday.
Freezing rain and drizzle is in the forecast, the NWS says, with up to a one tenth of an inch of ice potentially accumulating. The worst of it will be during the evening hours.
This type of precipitation could possibly lead to untreated surfaces like roads, bridges and overpasses to become slick and potentially dangerous.
The NWS says to expect slippery road conditions.
Despite the possible icing, the earlier forecast called for a combination of snow, sleet and ice. Now, that is unlikely to be the case, according to the NWS.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WBBM Newsradio for the latest weather conditions.
