CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The next potential government shutdown could come at a bad time for airline travelers.
The 45-day budget resolution agreed to by congress keeps the federal government functioning through November 17.
Lawmakers need to agree on another spending plan or risk a government shutdown right before the start of the thanksgiving travel period.
Joe Brancatelli, editor and publisher of Joe Sent Me tells the Noon Business Hour that critical airline industry employees could be asked to work without paychecks, which could pose major problems such as slower lines to get through TSA checkpoints, back ups in Customs to get back into the country and flight delays since some air traffic controllers may not come to work.
"If you can drive, I would drive and if you can defer your travel and not go-see friends or family some other time, I wouldn't take the risk of traveling this holiday, because it's going to chaotic," he advised.
"With a possible government shutdown, you will be miserable."
22 million people passed through airports during the thanksgiving week of 2022. 23 million are expected to fly this year.
