(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker says he has "loved the job" of being the state's chief executive, but has not yet decided whether he will seek a third term in office next year.

Reporters asked Pritzker about his future plans during an event in the southern Illinois town of Jerseyville, near St. Louis.

The governor acknowledged he has a few months to make up his mind about running for re-election, but said he's enjoyed the experience.

"I have loved the job. I have," he said. "The idea of being able to wake up every day and be able to make people's lives better, you know... work on problems that people are facing, try to protect people... that's just such a privilege."

At the same time, the billionaire philanthropist and heir to the Hyatt Hotels fortune hinted at other considerations going into his decision.

"Families of politicians go through a lot that they shouldn't have to," he mused. "They didn't choose, necessarily, to be in that life. So that's part of the decision-making process. And of course, the other part is... what's ahead? What could we accomplish if we kept going?"

Pritzker's name has repeatedly come up in speculation about a potential Presidential run since he was first elected in 2018, and he was on the short list of potential running mates for Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris last year.
