(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Police Department is offering cash rewards for anonymous tips on crime.

Police Supt. David Brown on Friday a tipster can be rewarded as much as $15,000 for certain results.

A tipster will get $10,000 for information on a homicide that leads to charges. A conviction would mean even more money, he said.

“That tipster will get an additional $5,000,” Brown said.

Tips for dropping a dime on gun traffickers will yield a tipster $3,000 — with a total of $5,000 if a conviction occurs.

The tip line phone number is (833) 408-0069.

Mayor Lightfoot earlier this year announced her administration would try to entice tipsters by offering cash rewards to get guns off the streets. The mayor said it’s worth trying the strategy.
