CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Park District has officially opened its flower shows for the holiday season.
“It's really pretty, and I think it gives off winter,” said Amelia Makowski, who was among the first to check out this year’s winter flower show at the Lincoln Park Conservatory.
Matthew Barrett said this year's theme, which features dozens of poinsettias, is “champagne toast.”
“We did pick poinsettias that have more of a champagne color, so we've got some more muted colors, some beiges, some yellows,” he said. “We also grew some dichondra hanging baskets that kind of look like a big, dripping chandelier.”
Barrett said he hopes the show encourages visitors to try growing their own poinsettias for the holidays.
“There are so many misconceptions about plants being difficult to grow,” Barrett said. “You just have to give them the proper time and care, so we inspire new green thumbs every day.”
There is also a snowflake-themed show at the Garfield Park Conservatory. Both shows are free and are open through Jan. 5, 2025. Find the dates and times for each show below:
