
MCHENRY COUNTY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Huntley man plead guilty Thursday to torturing and impaling a raccoon with a sword.
19-year-old Daniel Carey was sentenced to 59 days in McHenry County Jail and 18 months of probation for animal cruelty charges.
Carey admitted that in July of 2022 he filmed himself goring a raccoon with a sword as well as beating it with a hammer.
As part of his punishment, Carey has been ordered to perform 240 hours of community service at animal shelter.
At first, Carey was charged higher degree of animal torture and a count of disorderly conduct, court records revealed. If he had been convicted of those charges, Carey could have received up to five years in jail.
Carey’s accomplice, 19-year-old Nathan Weber of Lake in the Hills, plead guilty in April. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail and also ordered to perform community service at an animal shelter.
