The State of Illinois is putting more money into the fight against homelessness.

“We have important work to do, and our work is life and death.”

Leaders gathered in Springfield to announce a new 2-million-dollar investment from the Home Illinois program, funds that will go towards permanent housing programs for those experiencing homelessness in the Central Illinois area.

“Supportive housing keeps people close to healthcare, mental health services and local supports, allowing people to manage chronic illnesses, stabilize mental health and avoid repeated crises.”

Governor Pritzker says the initiative comes at a critical time, as temperatures plummet statewide…and some in Washington aim to defund certain homelessness prevention programs.

“Every Illinoisan that does not have a safe, comfortable place to lay their head at night represents an emergency.”
