Iraq War veteran brutally beaten outside South Loop grocery store

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An Iraq War veteran says he was attacked outside a South Loop grocery store this week.

With a scrape on the right side of his face still fresh, Kevin Qin described getting jumped by a group of people outside the Jewel at Roosevelt and Wabash Tuesday night.

“I just remember someone pulling my top and dragged me all the way down the floor, and that’s when I hit my head on the side…I presume that’s when I lost consciousness,” Qin told CBS-2.

Qin said an employee tried to help, but the group continued to attack him as he ran to his car.  He said they did not take anything from him, which is one of the reasons he believes it was a hate crime. He added that one of the men made a racial comment during the attack.

No one is in custody as CPD Area Three detectives go over surveillance video.
