CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicagoans rallied to provide relief to Louisiana residents after Hurricane Ida took a gnarly toll on the state.

At least 12 people in Louisiana died in the Category 4 hurricane, a million people were left without power and 600,000 without water.

The Chicago group Journey for Justice has more than 30 partner groups across the country — and the Louisiana partners needed help.

Journey for Justice's rapid response team flew down as soon as they could.

The group rented cargo trucks to transport bottled water, soap, dry foods, diapers and other necessities from Houston to Baton Rouge.

The group also bought hotel rooms for New Orleans families facing eviction. They plan to return to Louisiana in two weeks to provide more relief.
