Kennedy express lanes to O'Hare to open Sunday

The outbound express lanes of the Kennedy Expressway will once again allow drivers to get to O'Hare International Airport starting on Sunday, weather permitting.

Since mid-March, only the outbound local lanes had access to the airport. But that changes with a new construction configuration starting 10 a.m. Sunday, which is happening a month ahead of schedule, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Only drivers coming from downtown will have access to the reversible lanes, which will remain permanently outbound during the third and final year of the Kennedy overhaul project. The reversible mid-gate entrance and exits will remain closed. The project is expected to be completed near Thanksgiving.
