(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A deputy with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office has been credited with saving the life of a motorcyclist on Saturday in Green Oaks.

It happened around 3:40 p.m., officials said. Investigators believe the driver of a Ford Transit van was traveling east on Route 176 when she turned left onto Bayonne Avenue — into the path of the westbound motorcyclist.

Officials said the motorcyclist, a 55-year-old Skokie man, crashed into the Ford and was thrown from the motorcycle.

When first responders arrived on the scene, Deputy Dwight Arrowood found that the 55-year-old was “bleeding significantly” from his leg, according to the sheriff’s office. Arrowood applied a tourniquet to the man’s leg to stop the bleeding.

He was eventually taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center for his injuries.

The driver of the van, a 58-year-old Gurnee woman, as well as her 26-year-old passenger, were uninjured in the crash.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said it is still investigating the crash.
