The principal of Lake View High School is looking into why possibly hundreds of books were being thrown out Wednesday.

They were titles familiar to most — “Fences” by August Wilson, “A Streetcar Named Desire,” and “The Crucible” — all thrown in a dumpster behind the Chicago Public Schools high school.

CBS2 reported that neighbors near the school had posted about the book dump on social media and had asked why so much literature was being tossed.

The principal told the station that every year they weed out materials that are in bad shape or contain outdated information.

Some of the books, though, might have been accidentally removed, so he said he’ll meet with staff to make sure everyone is aware of their policy.
