(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The last remaining Sears store in Illinois is closing.
Transformco, the company that owns what is left of the once-giant retail chain, announced it will close the Sears store at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg on Nov. 14, 2021.
In a news release, the company said it would “redevelop and reinvigorate the property.”
“Transformco is in active negotiations with best-of-class retailers for the Schaumburg location,” the news release said.
Woodfield Mall, which recently marked its 50th anniversary, is owned by Simon Property Group.
The iconic Sears brand has been in a tailspin in recent years and exists in a significantly downsized form under Transformco.
