CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The West Side’s Legler Regional Library has officially reopened for the first time in months.

Severe storms during summer 2023 triggered damaging flooding inside of Legler Regional Library, the city’s first regional library.

Officials said walls, floors, furniture and equipment were all affected. After a few months of repairs, though, the majority of the facility reopened back in January.

Parts of the library are still undergoing work that will likely take a few more months.

The Legler Regional Library also closed its doors back in 2019 for a much different reason: a multi-million dollar renovation project, which added 3-D printing and other new technology.

One parent said having access to the library again is great news and gives kids a safe place to learn and connect as the temperatures begin to rise.
