(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lori Lightfoot is taking a step towards making her new curfew executive order into a city law.

The City Council Public Safety Committee will take up the mayor's proposed new curfew ordinance Friday. The measure would set in stone what the mayor has already done by executive order and backup the weekend curfew for young people under the age of 18 by one hour from 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights to 10 p.m.

There would be an exception if the young person is returning home from a ticketed evening event and could prove it with a ticket or wristband with the event's name on it.
