(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The world's largest design firm has unveiled some pretty ambitious plans to reimagine Chicago’s Magnificent Mile.
Design firm Gensler envisions some pretty dramatic changes to help bring life back to the famed stretch of North Michigan Avenue, which has struggled with regaining foot traffic after the pandemic.
At the heart of the firm's recommendation is making the Magnificent Mile a space that favors pedestrians over cars.
Gensler proposed cutting two lanes of vehicle traffic. In its place, the firm proposed adding outdoor dining, performance stages and public seating along the avenue.
The ideas will be on display at the Chicago Architecture Center in the coming weeks. It's unclear if the city is prioritizing redeveloping North Michigan Avenue.
