CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio) – A man was critically injured Sunday evening after being shot by a gunman inside a stolen vehicle on the city’s South Side, police said.

The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. in the 800 block of East 79th Street, according to the Chicago Police Department. Police said a 33-year-old man was standing in a parking lot when a stolen Kia pulled up and someone inside the vehicle opened fire, striking the man multiple times.

The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Officers later located the stolen Kia about a mile away from the shooting in the 8200 block of South Woodlawn Avenue. A 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody, police said.

Authorities later determined the teen had suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and he was also taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
