Man critically shot after trying to run away from robbers at Near West Side gas station, police say

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A man is fighting for his life following an overnight robbery attempt and shooting at Near West Side gas station.

Chicago police said around 3:45 a.m. the 48-year-old man, while at the Shell Gas Station on Roosevelt near Western, was approached by a group of four men who demanded his valuables.

The victim tried to run away but suffered gunshot wounds to both of his legs. He drove himself to Mount Sinai Hospital. He is listed in serious condition, police said.

No one is in custody. Area Four detectives are investigating.
