(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Winthrop Harbor man who was being sentenced to prison for a gun crime in Lake County added some new charges to his rap sheet after allegedly attacking a sheriff’s deputy.
Maseo Rosser, 22, had just been sentenced Wednesday to 7 ½ years in prison for aggravated discharge of a firearm for an incident in Gurnee, during which prosecutors said he fired at a homeowner while breaking into the man’s car.
He was about to be taken into custody by the deputy to be sent off to serve the sentence, when, the sheriff’s office says, he attacked the deputy, punching him in the face and headbutting him.
The deputy’s nose was broken. It took three officers to subdue Rosser after struggling for several minutes, officials said.
Sheriff John Idleburg said Rosser’s actions were “nothing short of cowardly.”
“Instead of accepting accountability for his past actions, this individual made the poor choice to attack our staff,” he said.
Rosser was charged with three new felonies, including aggravated battery to a peace officer and aggravated assault.
