(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A federal judge has sentenced a Milwaukee man to 25 years in prison for the sexual trafficking of two minors, both of whom he physically abused, prosecutors say.
David L. Smith, 28, trafficked a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl in late 2019 and early 2020 by posting sexually explicit photographs of them on websites, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago. Smith arranged for the minors to meet with customers at hotels and kept all of the money, prosecutors said.
He also was physically violent with each minor, they said. On at least one occasion, Smith allegedly hit the 17-year-old in the face after she mistakenly accepted fake money from a customer. He hit the 16-year-old victim in the face after learning she had contacted her mother, authorities said.
Smith pleaded guilty last year to a federal sex trafficking charge. He was sentenced Friday and also ordered to pay each victim $50,000 in restitution.
“These victims will carry the emotional scars of the defendant’s actions for the rest of their lives,” a prosecutor said in a court filing.
