MICHIGAN CITY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police in Michigan City are investigating a shooting Monday afternoon on a crowded beach that left one person critically wounded.
It was about 4 pm. at Washington Park Beach, on a section of beach where young people gather. There were hundreds present. Six to eight shots were fired and people scattered in all directions.
A young man was hit multiple times, in the chest, abdomen and arm. He was the only person wounded.
The gunman ran over a dune and disappeared and the beach pretty much cleared out.
A fire chief, who was present and applied combat gauze to the victim later, said police pulled over a car that was speeding away.
It's unclear if there was a connection.
