(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Gunfire erupted Wednesday outside a South Side courthouse and police station, wounding a man in the parking lot.

The man had just left the courthouse, adjacent to Area Two police headquarters on 111th Street when at least one officer witnessed a black Chrysler 300 pull up with three men inside and he said they started shooting with rifles.

The 29-year-old man they were targeting was in his car. He was injured by flying glass, but refused medical attention.

It appears more than 30 shots were fired before the Chrysler sped away. The courthouse was also hit.

CWB Chicago reports the man who was targeted was in court on a felony gun charge. He had rolled his car, he told police, when three armed men in another car were chasing him.

Police said a gun was found in his car after that incident.
