ELGIN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man who escaped police custody last week in the western suburbs has been recaptured.
According to Elgin police, 21-year-old Hugo R. Avila taken back into custody by Elgin police around 2 p.m. Monday in Hanover Park with the assistance of the police there.
On its Facebook page, Elgin police said Avila had been arrested last Tuesday for felony traffic-related offenses. It was while he was being taken from Elgin to the Kane County Jail in St. Charles that he managed to escape from a transport vehicle around Route 64 and Randall Road.
At the time, police searched the area for hours, but did not find Avila.
