(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayoral candidate Kam Buckner says Mayor Lightfoot and the Chicago Transit Authority are falling short when it comes to safety on trains and buses.

South Side state Rep. Kam Buckner says riding the CTA is scary right now, and for him the issue is personal. He says he's an avid CTA rider, and he is disappointed with the way things are going.

Among the problems, he says, are cameras that aren't connected and entrances and exits that aren't adequate.

Buckner says he has a comprehensive transit plan to increase reliability, accessibility and safety.

Buckner says talking with the young people who are at-risk can help reduce crime.

He says teens seem to have dealt with the question of death and expect to die soon. Buckner says they should be dealing with the question of living.

Buckner is the guest on our “At Issue” this weekend, which airs at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
